Welcome to the Cardiac Center at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

If it can be done, it can be done here
Learning that your child has a heart problem of any kind is a life-changing moment. It is also the start of a new responsibility for you: finding the best possible medical care.

The Cardiac Center at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is a world leader in pediatric cardiac care. This unique "hospital within a hospital" was created from our belief that excellence in individual disciplines, while essential, is not enough.

It is the ongoing collaboration of a multidisciplinary team that produces the most comprehensive care for your child, the fullest support for your family and the very best outcomes for every type of congenital and acquired heart disease.

When you are referred to the Cardiac Center, your child's care will be led by one or more of our pediatric cardiologists. Your child's cardiologist(s) will perform a thorough evaluation, determine the necessary diagnostic testing and, in collaboration with other team members, plan subsequent treatment.

Cardiothoracic Surgery
Placing your child in the hands of a surgical team is an act of extreme trust. That trust is well founded at the Cardiac Center. Ours are the surgeons the world looks to for leadership, innovation and excellence in pediatric cardiothoracic procedures. In fact, surgical techniques developed at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia have become the standard at institutions worldwide.

Cardiothoracic Anesthesia
Few heart programs in the world have the luxury of a dedicated team of pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists. At the Cardiac Center, we consider it an absolute necessity.

Cardiac Nursing
What families often remember best about their experience with the Cardiac Center is the nursing staff. And with good reason: our nurses are remarkable. This select group brings cardiac-specific training and complete dedication to the needs of infants, children and young adults with heart disease.

The Fetal Heart Program
Today, many heart problems can actually be detected before birth. While it's difficult to receive the news that your unborn baby's heart is less than perfect, prenatal diagnosis allows valuable time to consider options and plan wisely for the path ahead.

Cardiac Critical Care Medicine
In addition to standard specialty training in pediatric cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery and cardiac anesthesia, physicians in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit are trained in specialties such as pediatric critical care medicine and neonatology.

The Center for Adults With Congenital Heart Disease
Congenital heart disease (CHD) doesn't affect just children. As treatments – and survival rates – improve, a growing number of adults are living with congenital heart disease. In some cases, these are the first generations to survive previously fatal conditions and they face unique challenges.

Cardio-pulmonary Failure and Thoracic Organ Transplantation Program
For children with irreparable heart or lung disease, organ transplantation offers great promise. This highly specialized discipline requires extensive expertise on many fronts. The Cardio-pulmonary Failure and Thoracic Organ Transplantation Program at the Cardiac Center is one of the largest in the world and draws upon the collaboration of a closely-knit healthcare team.

In recognition of the Cardiac Center's excellence,
Child magazine's 2003 survey ranks Children's Hospital
the best in the nation for cardiac care
